Estragon
My Role :
My role in this project was that of Game Designer, Narrative Designer and Sound Designer.
I designed the game mechanics and interaction, and documented them comprehensively in a document. I designed how and when the player would learn certain information of the story to have a coherent and smooth experience. I designed the sound mechanics and interactions, and implemented them into the Unreal Project.
Description :
Estragon is a First Person Walking Simulator where the player is confronted with the Absurd. Based on the play "Waiting for Godot" written by Samuel Beckett, the game is set an undetermined amount of time after the end of the play, where Estragon is alone and Vladimir is no where to be found. The player will have to explore a repetitive landscape and try to decipher the meaning behind the words of Estragon to understand what happened to Vladimir.
The main design challenge faced when making this game was translating the philosophy of Albert Camus and Samuel Beckett into the Gameplay. The player had to be faced with the same dynamic described in the philosophy and yet had to remain entertaining and fun.
This project was made with a team of 4 students over the span of 3 months.
